Junior pitcher Brooke Donofrio recorded 16 strikeouts and allowed only one hit and one walk, as the Rams (26-3) ended the greatest season in program history for the Bengals (24-3). Donofrio, a Maryland commit, batted 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBI’s. Junior CF Isabella Baldino went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs. Freshman 2B Eva Chetaitis registered a double with two RBI’s.
Senior SS Riley Schmidt crushed a solo home run to left field to break up the potential perfect game in the bottom of the 7th inning in the loss. Sophomore 2B Brooke Rizzo drew a walk after that for the only other base runner.
Barnegat will graduate a strong senior class that includes Schmidt, CF Brianna Dato, C Jadeyn Bodziak, and LF Eva Watts.
The Bengals are projected to return a strong group guided by ace pitcher Gianna Gomez, Rizzo, 3B Makaila Wickham, RF Tristian Zalewski, and 1B Gianna Skwirut.
